ALR technology for

ultra-short-throw projection

Ultra-short-throw (UST) projectors project the image very closely, at an extreme angle.
To maintain image quality, it is essential to use a screen designed specifically for this technology.

Lumene UST screens, equipped with ALR (Ambient Light Rejection) or Fresnel technology, reject ambient light to maximise contrast and reproduce deep blacks, even in a brightly lit room.

ALR technology
Ambient Light Rejection

ALR (Ambient Light Rejection) technology is based on the use of directional optical micro-structures integrated into the surface of the fabric. These structures are designed to selectively reflect the incident light from the projector placed at the bottom of the screen (in the case of UST projectors), while absorbing or deflecting the ambient light from lateral or zenithal sources.
This configuration preserves a high level of contrast in bright conditions, improves the dynamic range of the image and limits the light haze that affects blacks on conventional canvases.

ALR Lumene screens are calibrated to offer:

  • Optimised gain (≈0.6 to 0.8) for deep blacks without hot spots.

  • A wider viewing angle (~140°) ensuring a homogenous image for all viewers

  • Perfect compatibility with 4K UHD and HDR sources, with no loss of resolution or optical distortion.
